Ukraine is a country where things grow. Crops of every kind stretch across fields that reach the horizon. But something else is growing here too: democracy and justice are emerging from a post-Soviet society. The desire to belong to a free Europe is very strong.
The guy in the picture is Alex, my travel companion. One of his great qualities is that he studies Ukrainian and is very good at charming border guards.
